Synopsis:
Stephen is a wunderkind press secretary who has built a career that men twice his age would envy. During a tight presidential primary race, however, Stephen's meteoric rise falls prey to the backroom politics of more seasoned operatives, and his one night stand with a teenage staffer proves to be more complicated than casual. Farragut North is a classic tale of hubris set against a contemporary landscape - about the lust for power and the costs one will endure to achieve it.
Review:
Actually, I was trying to decide if this should be a 4 or 3.5... and finally, decided n a 3.5 star as it's a movie that is really good, but also somehow not that good. Ryan Gosling was great as usual.. however, the intensity somehow felt a little overdone at the end... the cynicism came across as being just a little too grim and self-righteous. I sort of expected a little more greed in the behaviour.
The plot was great.. love it. The script was good. In fact, really, it's a 4-star movie. At this stage, can't quite put my finger to it.. it's a great movie that somehow, could have been greater. Could have left me with even more conflicting thoughts.. but it didn't. It was a serious movie that left me exiting with the sentiment that it's a commercialized movie. The almost here, but not there kind of movie.
Still, it is a really good film, definitely worth the ticket price and it's a good movie to watch when you are not in the mood for frivolous movies, and all you want is a good movie that somewhat makes sense, provokes a bit of thought without being too heavy.
